Woodland Nantucket Retreat Locations:Summerfield, North Carolina, 8012 Hoskins Ridge Drive
New for 2011New projects have been added and in Delaware and North Carolina, the June retreats have an OPTIONAL third full day to allow for larger projects… OR come for 2 1/2 days to give yourself time to learn all we know about Nantucket baskets while completing a variety of projects. Last year we introduced to a new technique for "sewing" the hardwood staves. This technique is very, very easy!!! and saves so much time. Thanks Barbara Boulton!! Again this year we will have half kits, cane, glue, tools and polyurethane available at the Retreat.
LodgingListed below are hotels/motels close to both studios. Please remember that there will be a 10-15 minute drive as both studios are out in the country. Several local weavers in Delaware and North Carolina have offered to house out of town weavers. Schedule for the Delaware/North Carolina Retreats:Classes will begin on (Thursday if you choose the June option in DE/NC) Friday morning at 9:00am. Coffee/tea and muffins/rolls/fruit are provided for a light breakfast. Time will be spent on designing your Nantucket using steps/twills/natural and dyed cane. If you have chosen a project with hardwood staves, time will be spent working with the hardwood staves. We have developed new ways to steam the staves that is quicker and dry faster! The staves come beveled and tapered. They must be sanded, steamed and inserted in the bases. While the hardwood staves are drying, other smaller Nantucket baskets of your choice may be started and/or completed. Class will end at 7pm on Friday evening. Both lunch and dinner are provided for you on Friday. Schedule for the Aiken, SC RetreatClasses will begin Friday 9:00am. Coffee/tea and muffins/rolls/fruit are provided for a light breakfast.
