Retreat Workshops

Nantucket basketsAll the materials are handcrafted at D.E.L.S. in Massachusetts and in Summerfield, North Carolina by Dr. David C. Ross. The materials are of the highest quality available. The baskets are priced using cherry wood, except when noted. Walnut is available on several items. However, if you have a passion for another wood, just call us and we’ll price it out for you. Ivory knobs and washers are included in the price of the Nantucket Baskets made at the Retreat. Bone knobs and scrimmed knobs are available also. Call 336-644-8994 or email for prices.

This is your retreat! You are only limited by your imagination!

About Moldsmold

Each project requires a mold. Unless specified all molds are rental molds. The rental fee of a mold is included in the price of the workshop. We use the molds over and over again and several different baskets can be made on one mold. This gives you access to molds for bowls, trays, and traditional Nantuckets using the mold rented for you. or switch molds with a friend and take advantage of this time to get several Nantuckets started and finished. We make every effort to only have each person pay ONE rental fee. However, if you would like to purchase a mold, please let us know call 336-644-8994 or email with any questions.

Students will learn the many different uses of a 4" belt sander/combination disc sander and a dremel. Time will be spent discussing the uses for the many drill bits and actually using both the sander and the dremel. Included in this workshop are the special drill bits needed for Nantucket baskets and hardwood staves to taper/bevel and sand.
Retreat Price: 25

Students will start by learning to “PEG” into a board that can be used later in your tool kit and use it to scrape or nail on. After learning the process of pegging, you will then make your previously chosen basket. This basket must have a flatstock rim. Pegging a rim takes both time and strength, but the end result is worth the effort.
